Both sides of this argument are intent on being heard. People in the medical community hold the view that colon cleansing is, at worst, potentially dangerous and, at best, a total waste of time. How could cleaning the colon be harmful? Flushing a lot of liquids into the colon to clean it out could lead to an electrolyte imbalance.
Some valuable nutrients you might lose are sodium, potassium and calcium. In addition, if done incorrectly or if the colon is flushed with excessive amounts of fluid, dehydration and blood pressure problems might result.
Even though the majority of the medical community takes this view, colon cleansing is still very popular. The people who do cleaning the colon really believe it is helpful for the body and healthy life. They think that colon cleansing helps get toxic bad waste out of the colon which then allows the body to function better. The point of view shared by these practitioners is that not cleaning the colon causes it to function poorly which in turn can lead to a host of other problems which include weight gain and low energy.
Because expelling waste material is not exactly sexy, the colon is not fully appreciated. Waste is generally moved through the body in only three days, the colon is always working hard. This is what is considered normal, but it varies from person to person. This is not a glamorous sexy organ. But, the colon works like a well oiled machine. Does it require help? Well, it depends on your point of view.
The colon does have some serious diseases associated with it and perhaps this is what motivates people to colon clean. After all, colon cancer is no laughing matter. And of course there are the less deadly but still unpleasant conditions such as Crohn's disease and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). To date, no medical proof exists that proves the theory that a toxic colon is what causes these medical problems.
One thing that can have a terrible effect on the colon is a poor diet. We have diets that are horrible here in America, most of our food choices are poor quality convenience foods containing chemicals and non-natural ingredients. All this low nutrient, low fiber content food is thought to lead to to diverticulitis. As our food choices have become increasing worse over time, the cases of diverticulitis have increased. In 1920, 10% of people had diverticulitis; today 50% of people over sixty years of age will get a case of diverticulitis. When we grow older, the odds increase to over fifty percent. But, this colon problem is not a result of poor colon functioning but instead is caused by bad food choices.
Are all the pictures of the material removed from the colon posted everywhere a fraud? No, they're most likely real. This is probably stuff removed with colon cleaning. Doctors state that the colon would have rid the body of this waste if it had been given the few days it needs to complete the task. The pro colon cleaning crowd feels that the benefits of colon cleansing far exceed any risk, so why not just do it.
Both sides of the argument have been presented here but ultimately it is up to you to make the final choice on colon cleaning.
